Dental Assisting Clinic Patient Responsibilities

As a patient in the Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College Dental Clinic, you have the responsibility to:

  1. Provide complete and accurate information regarding your medical and dental history, including previous illnesses, hospitalizations, communicable disease exposure, medications, allergies, and current medical care.
  2. Follow treatment recommendations and ask questions about anything you do not understand.
  3. Keep scheduled appointments and provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Two (2) consecutive cancellations, failure to provide 24-hour notice, repeated missed appointments, or failure to maintain communication with the clinic may result in dismissal as a clinic patient.
  4. Arrive promptly for all appointments. Students must have adequate time to provide complete patient care and meet educational requirements.
  5. Be an active participant in your oral health care. Ask questions to better understand your dental health and recommended treatment.
  6. Maintain a relationship with a primary dental provider for routine and comprehensive dental care. The Dental Assisting Clinic is an educational facility and is not intended to serve as a patient’s primary dental home. The clinic cannot guarantee regular, periodic recall or dental hygiene appointments.
  7. The Dental Assisting Clinic is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment for patients, students, faculty, and staff. The clinic reserves the right to refuse treatment or dismiss any patient at its discretion for inappropriate behavior, failure to comply with clinic policies, or conduct that interferes with patient care or student learning.
